Zero Waste Meals

How long do the Zero Waste meals last for?

Strata Salad Jars salads should be consumed within 1 week of the date prepared.

Hot-packed soups and stews will typically keep sealed in the fridge for 2 to 6 months. We recommend the Leek & Lentil stew be consumed within 1 month of the date prepared.

Once the jar’s seal has been broken, treat the contents like something you made that day and consume it within 5 days. All products are labeled with the date on which they were prepared.

Can I return the glass jars my meals come in?

Yes! We will gladly buy back clean jars with their bands, and you’ll earn a $1 credit on your account to put toward any products at Apothecary Kitchen.

The flat metal tops do not need to be returned - they can instead be recycled. All returned jars are sterilized and reused, helping us to significantly reduce food packaging waste :)

How do I open the jar?

A canning jar consists of the jar, the flat top which gets sealed during our packing process, and the band to hold the flat top in place.

To open the jar first remove the band by unscrewing it from the jar. Next, use a bottle opener to gently lift the flat top away from the jar. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a photo demonstration!

Ingredients

Do your products contain gluten?

There are a few wraps on our menu that have a gluten-containing whole wheat wrap. We have a dedicated knife and cutting board used specifically for items containing gluten. All of the recipes we prepare in-house are free of gluten (soups, stews, salads, crackers).

However, please note our commercial kitchen is located within the Hamilton Farmers Market which is an open-air environment. Our closest neighbour is approximately 6 meters away and they do use gluten-containing ingredients. While the risk of cross-contamination is low, it is not zero.

Do your products contain dairy?

No, none of the products at Apothecary Kitchen contain any dairy.

Do your products contain nuts?

We use a variety of nuts and seeds in our kitchen, including but not limited to cashews, almonds, pine nuts, pecans, walnuts and sesame seeds.

While we cannot guarantee that cross-contamination won’t occur, we do take several precautions to ensure our products are safe for everyone to enjoy. For example, when we make cashew-containing soups, we put them at the end of our production day so that our kitchen goes through a full cleaning and sanitizing process before our equipment is used again for non-cashew products.

How much salt is in your products?

The level of salt in each recipe varies, and we encourage you to review the Nutrition Facts on the product pages of the items you are interested in. We regularly prepare no or low-salt items for customers who order the week ahead. If you wish to order low or no-salt items, please contact us at hello@healwithplants.ca to place your custom orders.
